EVOLUTION TO A ONE LAYER CARD

Have you perused the Stampin' Up! Sale-a-Bration brochure yet? If you haven't, you are missing out on a couple different levels.

During the three months of Sale-a-Bration, for every $50 you order, you choose one of the 12 freebies from the Sale-a-Bration brochure. And, to add to the fun, from now until the end of the promotion, March 31, they have added three more choices, to bring it to 15! You can check out the three new additions HERE.

Anyway, to get back on track. In the original Sale-a-Bration brochure, on page 5, you can find a very versatile and beautiful stamp set called Avant Garden.

Avant Garden
I've used the set a few times already. But, for my March workshop, I wanted to create a wreath using just the large flower. The technique I was going to feature was MASKING

Masking is a technique I don't use often enough at all, which is unfortunate because it gives the feeling of depth and dimension with only a little work.

So, with a wreath and masking in my mind, I grabbed Tempting Turquoise and Peekaboo Peach ink and went to work. And this was the result:

I left this card sit on my kitchen cupboard for several days, forcing me to glance at it every time I came through. Something about it bothered me -- a lot. Finally, I realized what it was: that big blank white hole in the center of the wreath. I tried to tell myself that WHITE SPACE IS GOOD. Not every area needs to be covered with color and design.

But, nope. I couldn't convince myself.

I decided to re-format the whole card, and thus a one layer card had evolved:

A close-up look at the stamping:

I made the final card to measure 4 1/4" x 4 1/4". I love the look of a square card. But I HATE that you have to add extra postage to a square envelope. The beauty of a card this size is that it fits nicely inside a traditional A2 envelope. Win-win!

Evolution to a One Layer Card

So, at the March 13 Stamp-In Workshop, the girls will be creating this final card. Hey, are there any GUYS in the area who'd like to come and make this card??

  2. Arrived here via Thursday Favorite Things and had to come and look since I am a fellow card maker. Love this card. I actually really like the original wreath too. The white space didn't bother me at all.
