SCRIBBLY SENTIMENT

I have been seeing so many photos of people's trips to sunflower fields on social media lately. I am so jealous. I'd experienced the vastness, the eternity and the exquisite beauty of a field of sunflowers in the past, but not in recent years. Have you ever experienced it? Or is it just a Wisconsin thing? I can't imagine that it is.

The large sunflower from the Celebrate Sunflowers set on page 13 in the Annual Catalog is a beauty and wonderfully reminiscent of one found in a field overflowing with its twins.

I used the larger of the two sunflowers from this set in my card, Of course, I used Stampin' Blends to color mine, as well as three of the separate large leaves. Once the coloring was finished, I fussy cut the components.

Since the flower was stamped in black ink, I wanted to continue with the super black look, so decided to pop up the fussy cut flower onto a black background that had been embossed inside the Old World Paper 3D embossing folder, page 185.

This embossing folder is so special, and I find myself grabbing it time after time because it gives such deep texture. And both sides of the embossed piece are equally wonderful, making it a tough choice as to which side I will be using in my creation.

Because there was absolutely no white on this card, I didn't want to introduce any in just the sentiment, What to do? I thought about stamping it onto a strip of Old Olive cardstock. But I felt that was just a bit too ordinary and expected.

What I ended up doing finally was to take the two Stampin' Blends I used on the leaves, both Light and Dark Old Olive, and scribble on a piece of Whisper White cardstock. I then stamped the sentiment from the set in black over the inking. Rather than die cut the piece, I fussy cut sort of randomly around the words. Since that looked cool, I used a couple Dimensionals to pop it up on the textured background.

Using the Subtle 3D embossing folder, also on page 185, I embossed a 4" x 5 1/4" piece of Crushed Curry cardstock on which I layered the sunflower piece, then i added it to a card base of Mossy Meadow.

Happy Sunflower Field Season!

  1. Oh I just LOVE this! I have a giant sunflower stamp too (that is different than yours) that I could easily mimic this look. Pinned.

  2. I love sunflowers! They remind me of Kansas, where I lived for quite some time. They grow in wild abundance there. I will be featuring this card in this week’s Creative Compulsions.
