Summer's gone. In our area, no more butterflies. Sad.
With the loss of the summer's butterflies, I present to you a card with a BUTTERFLY on it. We have to hang on to the remnants of summer as long as we can, right? What better way than a permanent reminder in the form of a card?
On this card, one way to make the paper butterfly seem a little more realistic is to gently tip the wings upward. That is possible if you only add adhesive down the body of the butterfly, leaving the wings free.
The card is fairly easy to put together because it is built on a premade Stampin' Up! card base that features lovely images of flower outlines. Since butterflies are naturally drawn to flowers, I thought they were the perfect focal point to add to the flowery card.
Using some pieces of cardstock, a pretty label die and some black rhinestones left over from a past Halloween promotion, makes for easy work in putting together this card.
Following is a tutorial on exactly how to create a card similar to this one. If you didn't happent to pick up the package of card bases and coordinating envelopes on the Stampin' Up! Clearance Rack when they were available, it would be simple to create the look with materials you already have on hand. Just stamp randomly all over a white card base a small outline floral design in Mango Melody ink, and you're on your way!
SUPPLIES:
Stampin' Up! preprinted card base (or make one of your own!)
Basic White cardstock
Black cardstock
Polished Pink cardstock
Mango Melody cardstock
Black ink
Through It Together stamp set (page 72, Annual Catalog)
Die Cutting Machine
Brilliant Wings dies (page 158, Annual Catalog)
Seasonal Labels dies (page 18, Mini Catalog)
Black Rhinestones (or color clear Basic Rhinestones with a black Stampin' Blend!)
Stampin' Dimensionals
DIRECTIONS:
The card base is a preprinted Stampin' Up! card that measures 4 1/4" x 6 1/4". Or make your own with Mango Melody ink and appropriate small floral stamp(s).
From Polished Pink cardstock, die cut one of the butterflies from the Brilliant Wings dies. Set aside for now.
Using one of the dies from the Seasonal Labels die set, cut a label from Mango Melody cardstock. Using adhesive only on the body of the butterfly, adhere him to the top portion of the label.
On a scrap of white cardstock, stamp a sentiment in black. The stamp I used is from the Through It Together stamp set.
Using the small die from the Seasonal Labels set, die cut this sentiment. Use a few Stampin' Dimensionals to add it towards the bottom of the label.
Adhere this finished portion to a piece of black cardstock that measures 2 1/8" x 3 5/8"
To this, add a strip of Polished Pink cardstock that measures 1" x 5", leaving about 1/4" of the pink extending at the top of the black and flagging the bottom end.
Add black rhinestones to the body of the butterfly as well as to the flagged portion of the pink.
Use Stampin' Dimensionals just on the pink strip to add this completed piece to the card base.
When the card is finished, gently tilt the butterfly's wings upward a bit.
Butterfly
Smiles.
I love the color combination and the sentiment!
