January in Wisconsin. What can I say? Either you love it or hate it. Snow, cold, ice, poor visibility. To those who love it, it is the veritable winter wonderland.
In my card today, I am trying to depict that feeling.
Full of texture to symbolize that of ice and snow, I think you get the idea of what it's like to live in Wisconsin during the winter. Actually, much of the Midwest experiences all these same wonders. I don't mean to claim it only for Wisconsin. But, that's where I am.
Would you like a tutorial on how to create a card such as this, which would be suitable for so many winter occasions?
SUPPLIES:
White cardstock
Shaded Spruce cardstock
Soft Suede ink
Shaded Spruce ink
Christmas Season stamp set (Item # 156293)
Die Cutting/Embossing Machine
Painted Texture embossing folder (page 159, Annual Catalog)
Pretty Pines Thinlits Dies (retired, but you could use any set that has sprigs of greenery)
Seasonal Labels dies (Item #156299)
Paper Snips
Stampin' Dimensionals
DIRECTIONS:
Fold a 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" piece of white cardstock in half, creasing it well with a bone folder.
To the card base, add another piece of white cardstock, measuring 3 3/4" x 5" that has been embossed with the Painted Texture Embossing Folder.
Using one of the dies from the Seasonal Labels Dies, cut a label with a scalloped top and bottom. Emboss this also with the Painted Texture Embossing Folder. Adhere it to the center of the card with Stampin' Dimensionals.
On white cardstock, stamp the two-step pinecones with Soft Suede ink for both steps. In Shaded Spruce ink, stamp three of the evergreen branches. Fussy cut these pieces, leaving small white margins all around.
From Shaded Spruce cardstock, die cut two foliage pieces.
Arrange all these pieces as you wish to the embossed label, popping up components as you see fit with Stampin' Dimensionals.

Several days ago, it was 65°. Then, the cold rains started. Today, it was 22° when I got up, and now it is a balmy 43° in the afternoon. I live in southeastern NC, 10-15 miles from the coast.
ReplyDeleteI like your card. I think you interpreted the coldness just right with all that icy texture!
Hmm, interesting. I like hearing how different the climates are even in parts of our own country. This morning it was -14 degrees, and checking just now, it's 7 degrees. Diehard Green Bay Packers fans sat out in freezing weather last night just to witness their sad loss. Januarys can be pretty uncomfortable here. But there are those folks who thrive on it. Yuk! I'm glad you like my card! Thanks!
DeleteYour card is lovely! Happy creating!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Cindy!
DeleteBeautiful! Our January hasn't been that snowy with only a few storms so far but it has been very cold and icy this year.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Joanne! Where are you located?
DeleteLovely card. I'm in California so I won't tell you my weather but your card epitomizes winter to me. Great job! XO- MaryJo
ReplyDeleteThanks, MaryJo! Ha ha, being in California, you just don't want to make me jealous, huh? Enjoy your January!
DeleteCongratulations!
ReplyDeleteYour post is being featured at this week’s Sunday Sunshine Blog Hop!
Great job!

Thank you, Laurie!
DeleteI just love anything with a pine cone so this card is quickly one of my favorites that you have made. So for this winter in Eastern TN in the Smoky Mountains it is cold with light snow and rain, back up to the 50's and 60's for a few days but in the 20's at night, then another few days of sleet and snow. It is hard to figure out what to wear but I will definitely take this over your temps and all that snow. I think cabin fever would get to me but I know it is beautiful to see outside the windows. Thanks for sharing this card and starting a conversation on the weather. #HomeMattersParty
ReplyDeleteThanks, Donna. I'm glad you like my pine coney card! So interesting to hear what weather various parts of the country experience at any given time! The Smoky Mountains sound like heaven. At least, to this Wisconsin girl. You do have quite a few changes to contend with though. Thanks for sharing with us! Stay safe and well.
